Café Praline

Buried under layers and layers of shop panelling from years gone by, this former off-licence was hiding some fantastic history. From the original wooden flooring and cornicing to shop shelving built into the alcove of a wall filled with shop ledgers and items dating back to the 1930's, 91 Leith walk had preserved some of it's best features. An enormous effort went into restoring the premises to its original glory. The project became a labour of love as the SPLINTR team breathed the life back into the corner unit in our favourite up-and-coming area of Edinburgh.

Inspired by the aesthetic of traditional French bakeries SPLINTR designed an approachable yet stylish local cafe for owners, Fred and Ingrid who own a large commercial bakery and now stock its produce in their new venture.

Simple materials such as wood, steel, zinc, slate and leather in their raw forms make an honest and humble visual impact, allowing the bakeries produce to speak for itself.
